DescriptionIndenture dated 22nd July 1809, between:
1. Joseph Wainwright, Surgeon; Thomas Hawkes, Merchant; Edward Dixon, Banker; Samuel Bennett, Nail Ironmonger; Richard Powell, Plumber and Glazier; Thomas Homer, Maltster; and John Tompson the Elder, Cordwainer, all of Dudley (being 7 of the Commissioners named and appointed under an Act of Parliament, 1791, for lighting the town of Dudley with Gas).
2. Henry Pitt, Innkeeper; and John Blewitt, Innkeeper, both of Dudley, Trustees.
3. Thomas Sheldon of Dudley, Whitesmith.
#2 sell and enfeoff to #3 a plot of land at Dudley called Martins Hill, bounded by a lane leading from Dudley towards Netherton, called Ellswall Lane. Inserted inside the document is a piece of paper stating: '£240 - Six months after date, I promise to pay to Mr James Taylor on his order, the sum of two hundred and forty pounds with lawful interest for the same for value received, as witness my hand the 20th day of August 1823, B. Stokes. Witness J. Robinson.'
