AdminHistory | The town of Amblecote lies in an angle of the river Stour, which formed the county boundary with Worcestershire until 1966. Amblecote was the Staffordshire portion of the ancient parish of Old Swinford; the rest of the parish was in Worcestershire and included the town of Stourbridge, which adjoins Amblecote on the south. In 1898 what had previously been the hamlet of Amblecote was made an Urban District. In 1966 it was divided between the boroughs of Stourbridge and Dudley, and from 1974 it was completely within Dudley. |
