| Description | Images taken by Martin Jones during the course of his career managing numerous Hip Hop groups and artists documenting the emergence of the UK Hip Hop scene. The acts with which Martin worked had a predominantly Midland basis and quickly emerged as some of the leading lights of the nationwide movement, competing and exhibiting at events in Birmingham, Coventry and London. Of special note is the dancer and artist Goldie (Clifford Warren Price) who during the course of his work with Martin made many of the early murals that were the foundation of his later international artistic work.
Martin invited many of the leading lights of the New York street art scene such as TAT Crew, Vulcan and Tkid to the UK, and it was during this period that Goldie made many of the contacts that helped launch his international career after his visit to New york with Martin in 1986. The development of UK Hip Hop's international connections is also well demonstrated by the success of the Bridlington International Street Art Competions. |
