Description | DSCAM/5/8/8/1: Articles (1 Mar. 1765) for the lease of a coalmine by the Revd Henry Antrobus of Dudley, Worcs., Clerk, to Thomas Hawkes of Dudley, butcher, Henry Baddily of Dudley, mercer and Anthony Baddily of Dudley, dealer in hops; being for a lease of a messuage and 10 closes of land (named) at Blowers Green, and a cottage there, for a term of 60 years from 25 Mar. 1765, extending for a further 20 years if the minerals are not worked out, at a rent of £40 p.a.; consideration of £5250 for the minerals, the lessees making trials before 29 Sept. 1766 and agreeing to accept a lease on the terms hereof if satisfactory results were obtained, paying the consideration in annual instalments of £210 for 25 years computed rom 29 Sept. 1764. |
DSCAM/5/8/8/2: Re-assignment (22 Mar. 1810) by Thomas Peach Pudsey of Seisdon, parish of Trysall, Staffs., Esq., to John Badley of Blowers Green, parish of Dudley, Worcs., gentleman, of two-thirds of a messuage at Blowers Green, 10 closes of land, a cottage, 2 dwellinghouses, and the plant of the colliery at Blowers Green, for the residue of the leasehold terms of 1000, 60 and 20 years; recites mortgage of July 1792 by John Badley to Samuel Peach to secure £1000. |
DSCAM/5/8/8/3: Articles of agreement (22 June 1793) between the Revd Joseph Cartwright of Dudley, Clerk, Abiathar Hawkes of the same, glass merchant and Richmond Aston of Tipton, Staffs., banker and coal master, for a partnership in the coal and iron trade; Cartwright and Hawkes having contracted for the purchase of minerals under various lands of George Birch in the parish of Tipton; partnership to work these and erect furnaces etc.; capital of £10500 to be brought in equally. |
DSCAM/5/8/8/4: Attested copy of articles of agreement (20 July 1793) between Abiathar Hawkes and Richard Mee of the Tiled House, parish of Kingswinford, Staffs., ironmongers and copartners, and Joseph Cox of Rowley, Staffs., ironmonger, admitting Cox as a partner with a one-fifth stake in their business as nail ironmongers, he giving security for £1000; recites 1792 partnership deed; original partners take two-fifths each; capital of £7000 currently employed etc. |

Andrew Foley, George Harry, Earl of Stamford and Warrington, Sir Thomas Edward Winnington, Bart, Thomas Foley, Richard Clarke, Anthony Lechmere and Jacob Turner, Esquires, and the Revv Arthur Onslow, Dean of Worcester, Thomas Cooks, Thomas Foley, Thomas Philpott, Thomas Philip Foley, Henry Rowland Berkley, Richard Francis Onslow and William Calcott, Clerks), to Thomas Hawkes, George Wright Hawkes and John Badley, all of the parish of Dudley, Worcs, coalmasters, of a messuage and lands (specified) at Pear Tree Lane in the parish of Dudley, with all underlying minerals and full powers to work same, for a term of 42 years from 25 Mar. 1811, at a rent of £40 p.a. for the surface and a nominal rent for the coal (already purchased by Badley), and 3s 6d a bloom for ironstone, and 6d a bloom for ironstone binds (each bloom of 34cwt of 120lb per cwt = 4080lb)`; upon the surrender of a previous lease (recited) of Oct. 1800. |
DSCAM/5/8/8/7: Attested copy of articles of partnership (dated 13 Sept. 1817) between Thomas Hawkes, George Wright Hawkes and Roger Wright Hawkes, all of Dudley, merchants, as glass manufacturers, for 7 years; capital to be provided equally; each partner to take £700 p.a. and have 5% p.a. on capital |
DSCAM/5/8/8/8-9: Agreement (17 Aug. 1822) between Ann Lawrance Hawkes of Dudley, widow (and legatee and executrix of George Wright Hawkes), and Thomas Hawkes and Roger Wright Hawekes, both of Dudley, glass merchants, for the sale of her one third interest in their partnership; consideration of £1200 to be secured by bond and warrant of attorney to be paid after 3 years, with interest; as collateral security, Thomas will execute a mortgage of his one sixth share orf freehold messuages, lands and minerals at Blower's Green (as specified), subject to the 1816 trust deed [DSCAM/5/8/10/1] and to leases to Messrs Salisbury and Company [see DSCAM/5/8/9 series] and Messrs Grazebrook; and indemnifying her from the partnership debts of £4817 3s 6d to the executors of Mary Hawkes deceased, £2068 12s 5d to Messrs Dixon and Dalton, and £1868 18/- to the Commissioners of Excise. And undated proposal by Mrs Hawkes of the terms on which she will withdraw from the glass trade. |
DSCAM/5/8/8/10: Duplicate deed of declaration (26 Feb. 1839) between Benjamin Best of Congreaves, Staffs., gentleman and Abiathar Hawkes of Leamington Priors, Warwickshire, Esq., dissolving the partnership between them in coalmines etc. at Dixons Green and the Buffery, which business is to be continued by Best; but Hawkes and Best to be equally interested in the property, subject to the payments below; all management to be in the hands of Best, who is to be paid £100 p.a. for his services; Best to have a lien on Hawkes's half-share of the profits and shall apply them to clearing the balance of £1621 (Charge No. 1 for advances made by Best to Hawkes), then £1500 and interest (Charge No. 2 - money lent to Hawkes for his private purposes by Best on the execution of this deed) and so much of £779 (Charge No. 3 - debts of Hawkes to named third parties) as Best shall think fit. |
