DSCAM/5/8/2/17: Lease and release (5-6 Mar. 1765) by John Finch of Dudley, ironmonger (only son and heir of John Finch of Dudley, ironmonger, who was eldest son and heir of John Finch of Dudley, ironmonger), to Thomas Hawkes of Dudley, butcher, of the entirety of the Netherton property, reserving minerals; consideration of £550.
DSCAM/5/8/2/18-19: Agreement (25 Mar. 1765) between Finch and Hawkes for Finch to bore up to 100 yards down on the Netherton premises to test for coal; if main coal is at least 7 yards thick and no more than 70 yards from the surface, Hawkes will pay £120 per acre for the mineral rights, £110 if it is 70-80 yards down, £100 if over 80 yards, all by instalments as specified here; further covenants and provisos. Bond of Hawkes and Henry Baddily of Dudley, coal master, to Finch in £1500 for the performance of covenants.
DSCAM/5/8/2/20: Grant (23 Oct. 1765) by Finch to Hawkes, butcher and grazier and Baddeley, gentleman, of coal and ironstone under the Netherton lands; consideration of £600.
DSCAM/5/8/2/21-22: Mortgage (13 Oct. 1766) by demise of 1000 years, by Thomas Hawkes, butcher and Sarah his wife, Henry Badley of the parish of Dudley, mercer and Phebe his wife, and Anthony Badley of Dudley, hop merchant, to John Finch of Dudley, merchant, of their respective one third interests in the Netherton surface property, to secure £550 and interest. And bond (same date) of same to same as additional security.
