Description | DSCAM/5/8/1/1: Lease and release (17-18 Apr. 1777) by Sarah Shaw the elder, late of Dudley, Worcs., now of Wolverhampton, Staffs., widow (and executrix of James Shaw), and the Revd Thomas Shaw of Wolverhampton, Staffs., Clerk and Mary his wife and Sarah Shaw the younger of Wolverhampton, spinster (the two younger children of James Shaw deceased), to Michael Barbor of Fetter Lane, City of London, gentleman, of a messuage and parts of messuages in High Street, Dudley, with the moiety of a well; and five eighths of a capital messuage, a tenement divided into 2 dwellings, and of other adjacent lands and lands called Ashton Barbor's and Stubble Leasowe, all as specified in Dudley; and of 4 acres of land formerly called Cockshut Piece but now Turley's Piece (taken out of Sandwall Field), adjoining the Sedgley-Himley highway, 2.5 acres called Leyhill Piece (also taken out of Sandwall Field), and adjoining quarter of an acre, 2.5 acres called the Great Country Piece and adjoining Turley's Piece (also taken out of the same field0 and another quarter acre, all in the parish of Sedgley, for a term of 2000 years to secure the payment of £1000 and interest, and subject thereto, to the use of James Hayward Shaw, late of Dudley, now of the City of London, gentleman (only son and heir-at-law of James Shaw deceased) and James Raybould of Dudley, gentleman (his trustee to uses); surrender by William Bendy of Kingswinford, Staffs., gentleman, to Shaw and Raybould, of the term of 500 years created by the settlement of 1734 for raising portions for the younger children of James Shaw deceased; consideration of £100 by J.H. Shaw to each of his sisters to discharge their portions, £400 to his mother, and £1000 to Shaw's mother by Barbor; recites the 1734 marriage settlement of James Shaw and Sarah Bendy, and subsequent deeds. |
DSCAM/5/8/1/2: Lease and release (20-21 Aug. 1779) by Shaw, now of Kinfare, Staffs., gentleman and Raybould of Dudley, shopkeeper, with the consent of John Burley of Bilston, Staffs., peruke maker and Ann his wife (nee Dawes), to Thomas Bendy of the parish of Kingswinford, Staffs., gentleman and John Squire of Dudley, gentleman, of Shaw's messuage on the norh side of High Street, part of a newly erected messuage and part of an old cottage (as specified) incorporated within the premises, the moiety of a well, and a newly erected stables at the bottom of the garden, and the five eighth of other premises (as above), upon trust for sale (except for minerals as specified) and upon trust to pay interest to Ann, to retain and invest the sum of £453 6s 8d pursuant to Roger Griffith's will, and pay he balance to Shaw; all subject to the prior mortgage #1 above; consideration of £453 6s 8d, in Shaw's hands as the residue of the personal estate of Roger Griffiths, and £39 18s 11d due from him to Ann for interest. |
DSCAM/5/8/1/3: Lease and release (16-17 May 1781) by Thomas Bendy (surviving trustee of #2), and J.H. Shaw now of London and John Burley and wife, and Thomas Brett of Dudley, gentleman (who acted at the auction of the premises on behalf of Hawkes), to Abiathar Hawkes of Dudley, glass maker, of the first Dudley premises in #1-2 above, and the five eighths of the two closes of land, subject to the life estate of Lester Yeoman in one eighth of two thirds and five eighths of the closes of land and the underlying minerals; consideration of £582 10/-; recites previous deed. |
DSCAM/5/8/1/4: Mortgage (17 May 1781) by Bendy, Shaw and Burley and wife, to Hawkes, of five eighths of the minerals under Ashton Barbor and Stubble Leasow, subject to Shaw's right of redemption should he discharge the monies due to the Burleys (as in #2 above) and repay the consideration money to Hawkes within 8 years of the date of #2; consideration of £60; recites previous deeds and the reservations concerning sale of minerals, and the need to sell to avoid foreclosure by Barbor etc. |
DSCAM/5/8/1/5: Assignment (17 May 1781) by Michael Barbor of Fetter Lane, London, gentleman, at the direction of J.H. Shaw, and with the consent of Bendy, Abiather Hawkes, George Jones of Dudley, brickmaker and John Haycock of the parish of Womborne, Staffs., miller, to Joseph Wainwright of Dudley, surgeon, of the term of 2000 years, in trust for Hawkes, Jones and Haycock (as purchasers of the freehold of parts of the premises) and otherwise upon trust to attend their respective freeholds; consideration of £1132 14/- by Bendy, the amount due to Barbor under the mortgage contained in #1; recites previous deeds, that Jones has purchased the five eighths of the capital messuage and the divided tenement in Dudley and Haycock the Sedgley property. |
DSCAM/5/8/1/6: Lease and release (13-14 Dec. 1792) by way of mortgage, by Thomas Hawkes of Goswell Street, parish of St James Clerkenwell, Middlesex, gentleman and Abiathar Hawkes of Dudley, gentleman, to Benjamin Phillips of the parish of St Ann Blackfriars, London, cheesemonger and Mary Wright of Goswell Street, widow (executors of Roger Wright of Goswell Street), of messuages and lands specified in the parishes of Westham, Essex and Hebonheath, Middlesex and a messuage etc. in High Street, Dudley and five eighths of Ashton Barbors and Stubble Leasows, five eighths of the minerals under Ashton Barbor and Stubble Leasow, and two further eighths of the lands and inerals (conveyed by #14 below), a tenement, dunghill, garden etc. purchased of Joseph Cox in 1785, a tenement in Hampton Lane, Dudley (purchased of John Haines in 1787), and a messuage in High Street, Dudley, adjoining other property of Hawkes there (purchased of Joseph Wainwright et al. in 1789), to secure £5000 and interest; recites previous deeds. |
