DSCAM/4/3/3/2: Agreement of subscribers (The Buffery Iron Boat Society) with Samuel Woodall of the Buffery, parish of Dudley, boiler maker and iron boat builder; shares of £120 to obtain one iron canal boat per share; meet at the house of Mrs Sarah Cole, The Gate at Darby Hand, parish of Dudley; monthly [four-weekly] subscription of £1 per share plus £1 at every third or quarterly meeting; 17 Aug. 1841. Members include Samuel Woodall and Solomon Woodall.
DSCAM/4/3/3/3: Agreement of subscribers (The Tipton Iron Boat Society No. 2) with Thomas Woodall of Netherton, parish of Dudley, boiler maker and iron boat builder; shares of £125 to obtain one iron canal boat per share; meet at the house of John Whitehouse, The Swan Inn, Tipton; monthly [four-weekly] subscription of £1 per share plus £1 at every third or quarterly meeting.; 22 July 1846. Members include Thomas Woodall, Samuel Woodall and Benjamin Woodall.
The boat societies work in the same way as the building societies: casting lots to decide who has the first turn - gets the first boat, first house etc.
