Description | DSCAM/3/78/1: Settlement (29 Sept. 1857) by Thomas Darby of Rowley Regis, Staffs., gentleman, upon John Chambers of the same and Ellen his wife; Henry Coldicott of Dudley, Worcs., gentleman is trustee; of £1000 Consolidated Bristol and Birminghasm 6% Stock (Midland Railway Company), in trust to pay the dividends to Ellen for life, with power of appointment, thence capital to her children, Phoebe (b. 30 Apr. 1836), John (b 17 June 1839) and Ellen (b 2 Dec. 1848) at the age of 21; in consideration of the release of an annuity of £25 on property at Rowley Regis. Attached note that trust terminated on 20 Nov. 1883 with transfer of stocks to Ellen Eley and Phoebe Underhill and sale of John Chambers's share. |

DSCAM/3/78/7: Probate (4 Dec. 1863) of the will (dated 24 Aug. 1863) of Thomas Darby of Rowley Regis, Staffs.; £1250 to be invested for the youngest daughter of his sister Ellen Chambers at 21; £1250 each to her eldest daughter and £1500 to her son, John; £175 to sister, of which £150 is for her children; recites that his younger brother had most of the family property etc., nevertheless gives £750 each to brother's married sons, William and Thomas, and £375 to Joseph, who is not; £250 to cousin, wife of the Revd John J. Hedges, incumbent of Little Dean near Newnham; £500 to cousin Henrietta, wife ofJohn Crowcher of Birmingham; £100 and books to George Augsutus Mayo How of Brasenose College, Oxford; £100 to godson, Joseph Griffin of Wolverhampton, farmer; £50 to Henry Coldicott of Dudley, solicitor; £150 to housekeeper, Christiana Hicks; £15 to other servants; £10000 to be invested in 3% Consols for the General Hospital, Birmingham, in return for 75 in-patient tickets (or equivalent value of out-patient tickets), to be distributed 45 by Samuel or William, sons of Samuel Lewis of Rowley Regis, nailmaster, and thereafter by the Vicar off St Giles, Rowley Regis, and 30 by the Vicar of Halesowen, with various provisions for the continuance of this benefaction etc.; £250 to the South Staffordshire Hospital, Wolverhampton, £125 to the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital and same to the Institution for the Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Children at Edgbaston; property at Rowley Regis specified, inc. pew 37 in the middle aisle of St Giles's, upon trust for sale for reasons given, and all other estate upon trust for sale; one eighth of residue to cousin, the Revd John Thomson Darby, Rector of St Clements, Oxford, plus 20 Birmingham Canal shares already given, and the rest to the Revd Augustus George How, Vicar of Bromley Bow near London, husband of a cousin 'on account of his large family and being without property'; codicil (17 Oct. 1863); right of pre-emption of premises in Rowley Regis to be granted to Samuel Lewis of the same, nailmaster, at a price of £3400, of which £1000 must be in cash and the balance may be paid by a mortgage to his executors for a term not exceeding 6 years; executors, the Revd Thomas Darby, Revd Augustus George Mayo How and George Augustus Mayo How |
