DescriptionDSCAM/3/411/1: Contemporary copy of the will (dated 26 Sept. 1806) of Joseph Stevenson of the Burnt Tree Inn, parish of Tipton, Staffs., victualler and coalmaster; wife to have use of the Inn etc. to continue the business, for life, for the benefit of herself and the maintenance and education of younger children, thence upon trust for sale, to sink into personal estate; lands, about 8 acres, at Horsley Heath, parish of Titpon, and 14 messuages there, the Burnt Tree Inn etc., 2 messuages adjoining it and 7 more near it, 9 in Owens Lane, parish of Tipton, 4 acres of land at Gret's Green, parish of Westbromwich, a parcel of land near the Wednesbury-Birmingham turnpike, 2 messuages and 6 acres of land at Lea Brook Field, parish of Tipton, Lower Kite's Croft and Guest's Croft (5 acres and 2 acres) at Wednesbury, 3 messuages near Darlaston, 9 acres of land at Moxley, parish of Darlaston, with 5 messuages lately erected by him thereupon, 4 messuages, nail warehouse and blacksmith's shop etc. at Oldbury, Salop, 24 acres of leasehold land, with buildings and machinery, used as a colliery near Moxley, 2 leasehold messuages and shops adjoining the Dudley-Dudley Port turnpike, parish of Tipton, and 9 leasehold messuages near Dudley Port, and 3 leasehold messuages at Tipton Green, Staffs., all upon trust for wife for life; thence to sons, James, Zachariah, John, William, Benjamin and Frederick Stevenson, and daughters Hannah, wife of William Holland, Mary and Rose Stevenson, and stepson, Joseph Bond, as tenants in common (remoter issue taking per stirpes); trustees empowered to operate or dispose of colliery at their discretion, proceeds sinking into personal estate; arrangements to pay balance of monies for uncompleted purchases contracted; all personal estate in trust for wife for life, thence capital to be divided between his children and stepson etc.; executors, Richard Edwards of Tipton, chemist, Edward Bridgwater of Dudley, Worcs., maltster and Edward Jones of Tipton, coalminer.
DSCAM/3/411/2: Assignment (1 June 1797) by Joseph Stevenson to Joseph Wright of Westbromwich, Staffs., maltster (Treasurer of the Oldbury Building Society est. 1795), of leasehold land and messuages in the parish of Tipton, for the residue of a term of 99 years, to secure the payment of £300, plus interest, for 5 x £60 shares in the Society, payable as to each share at 10/- per lunar month.
DSCAM/3/411/3: Lease and release (23-24 June 1803) by way of mortgage by Joseph Stevenson of Tipton alias Tibbington, Staffs., coalmaster, and Hannah his wife, to Richard Middlemore of Walsall, Staffs., sadlers ironmonger, of 2a. 0r. 28p. of Turnpike Leasow, adjoining the Dudley-West Bromwich and Dudley-Oldbury turnpikes, in the parish of Tipton, and 10 messuages erected thereupon, 270sq. yds of land (specified) at Owens Lane and 897.5sq. yds of land at Owen's Green (specified), all Tipton, with undrlying minerals, to secure £1000 and interest; covenant to levy a Fine.
DSCAM/3/411/4: Lease for possession [release wanting] (29 Sept. 1807) by Richard Edwards, Edward Bridgwater and Edward Jones (devisees in trust of Joseph Stevenson), to Edward Jessop of Dudley, Worcs., gentleman, of part of Lea Brook Field (5a. 3r. 36p.) with buildings erected thereupon, in the parish of Tipton alias Tibbington, on the south of the Wednesbury-Dudley turnpike (abuttals given).
DSCAM/3/411/5: Assignment and surrender (1 Oct. 1811) by Joseph Hill, late of the parish of Dudley but now of Hagley, Worcs., nail ironmonger, to Richard Edwards, now of Stoke upon Trent, Staffs., soapmaker, Edward Bridgwater and Edward Jones, now of Brierly Hill, parish of Kingswinford, Staffs., coal miner (devisees in trust of Joseph Stevenson), of a mortgage term of 1000 years in lands and messuages at Sheep Wash Lane, Tipton, upon the repayment of £600 of the £1000 due to Hill [who retains a security on lands and messuages at Horsley Heath], as specified; plan endorsed; recites previous deeds.
DSCAM/3/411/6: Unexecuted assignment (1814) by Bridgwater and Jones (surviving devisees in trust), to James Stevenson of Plas Madoc, Denbighshire, coal agent (eldest son of Joseph Stevenson), of 2 leasehold messuages in the parish of Tipton, for the residue of a term of 99 years from Michaelmas 1799 (as recited); consideration of £405.
DSCAM/3/411/7: Lease and release (Sept. 1819) by Edward Bridgwater of Dudley, Worcs., maltster and Edward Jones, late of Tipton and now of Brierley Hill, parish of Kingswinford, Staffs., coalminer (surviving devisees in trust of Joseph Stevenson of Burnt Tree, parish of Tipton, victualler and coalminer), and James Stevenson, late of Newport, Salop and now of the parish of Tipton, yeoman (eldest son and heir-at-law), to William Holland of Princes End, parish of Sedgley, Staffs., cordwainer and Samuel Holland of Dudley, baker (his trustee to uses), of 3 dwellinghouses, gardens and appurtenances n Pardoes Lane, Darlaston, to the use of William; consideration of £290 to Bridgwater and Jones. Unexecuted.
