DescriptionDSCAM/3/264/1: Probate (12 May 1854) of the will (dated 5 December 1853) of Thomas Lester of Dudley, Worcs., wine and spirit merchant; all to trustees to continue his wine and spirit business at their discretion, and otherwise, with exceptions, upon trust for sale; house and premises in High Street, Dudley, occupied by son-in-law, Thomas Haynes, to be first offered to Haynes at valuation; proceeds of sales payable in sixths to: Charles Lester (son); in trust for Sarah (daughter), wife of Robert Bew, for life, then to Robert for life, thence to their issue in equal shares, with remainder, for want of children, to the testator's other children and remoter issue equally per stirpes; in trust for Mary (daughter), wife of Job Taylor, for life, etc., etc.; in trust for Hannah (daughter), wife of Thomas Haynes, for life, etc., etc.; in trust for Samuel (son) - discretionary trust - thence to his issue; and in trust for Thomas and Alice, children of late son George, in moieties, with Thomas receiving capital at 21 and Alice receiving income for life, thence capital to her issue, with remainder, in default, to Thomas Lester the grandson, and further remainder of both interests, should Thomas and Alice die minors, to the testator's other issue; copyhold dwellinghouse, brewhouse and warehouses in Bilston, occupied by Bew, in trust for Sarah Bew for life, then to Robert Bew for life, then to their issue, with remainder, for want of issue, to testator's other children and remoter descendants, taking as tenants in common equally per stirpes; value of these copyholds to be brought into hotchpot when calculating Sarah's one sixth share above; copyholds in Bilston occupied by son Charles and already surrendered to him, to be brought into hotchpot when deciding his share; any debts of children to the testator to be taken into account when calculating the division of proceeds; executors, Henry Hodgetts of Warley Wigorn, Worcs. (brother-in-law), Edward Grainger of High Street, Dudley, draper, and Josiah Collins Cook of the same, ironmonger.

DSCAM/3/264/2: Assignment (29 Mar. 1860) by Thomas Haynes of Dudley, Worcs., pork butcher to Charles Shaw of Birmingham, Esq. and others (trustees and directors of The Birmingham Banking Company), of a life asurance policy for £499 19/- with the Gresham Life Assurance Soceity, to secure his account with the bank (currently £1128 9/-); with attached notice of the assignment, sent to the Society; memorandum of the surrender of the Gresham Policy, Mar. 1879 and undertaking by the Society to produce deeds.
DSCAM/3/264/3: Mortgage (2 Oct. 1861) by Thomas Haynes of Bilston, Staffs., wine and spirit merchant, to Charles Starkey of The Manor House, Upper Wick, Worcs., gentleman, of his one sixth share in the trust fund under Thomas Lester' s will, and a life assurance policy for £500 with the Rock Life Assurance Company, to secure £400 and interest; endorsed vacating receipt, 13 Apr. 1878 and note of surrender of the policy, 9 May 1878.
DSCAM/3/264/4: Notices of mortgage (#3) sent by Messrs Coldicott and Canning, as agenmts for Starkey, to the Rock Life Assurance Company and to the surviving trustees of Thomas Lester, Oct. 1861.
DSCAM/3/264/5: Mortgage (31 Dec. 1862) by Thomas Haynes, now of Stourbridge, to the trustees (named) of the Birmingham Banking Company, of his share in the trust fund, and the Gresham life assurance policy [recited here as having previously been deposited with the bank], to secure the £1266 due to the bank; memorandum of the surrender of the Gresham Policy, Mar. 1879 and undertaking by the Society to produce deeds.
DSCAM/3/264/6: Notices of mortgage (#5) sent by Henry Money Wainwright of Dudley, as solicitor for the Birmingham Banking Company, to the Gresham Life Assurance Society, to Charles Starkey (prior mortgagee) and to the surviving trustees of Thomas Lester, with related acknowledgments etc., May 1863.

DSCAM/3/264/8-11: Mortgage (19 Apr. 1871) by Thomas Haynes of Waukesha, Wisconsin, produce dealer, to Frederick Warren of Bilston, Staffs., pork butcher, of his life interest in a share of trust monies under the will of Thomas Lester, and of 2 insurance policies (Rock Life Assurance Company and Gresham Life Assurance Society), subject to prior incumbrances, to secure £200 and interest; endorsed memorandum of the surrender of the Gresham Policy, Mar. 1879 and undertaking by the Society to produce deeds.

Endorsed (22 Aug. 1878), reassignment by the Birmingham Banking Company Limited to Haynes; recites the events of 1866 whereby the Birmingham Banking Company was wound up and the new limited company established; all debts secured by #4 have been paid and the Rock policy surrendered, etc.

Receipt (19 Apr. 1871) of the Birmingham Banking Co. Ltd from Frederick Warren on behalf of Thomas Haynes in discharge of #3; copy notice of assignment (#8) etc. sent to the Gresham Life Assurance Society, Sept. 1871; and notice of re-assignment (#8), 12 Sept. 1878..

DSCAM/3/264/20: Bond (28 Feb. 1839) of George Thompson of Dudley, corn dealer, to Thomas Lester of Dudley, pork butcher in £100, to secure the payment by Thompson to his 5 children when the reach 21 years of age of £48 5s 8d, the share of their late mother, Mary Thompson, under the will of Ann Bloxcidge.
