Description | DSCAM/3/230/1: Pre-nuptial settlement (4 June 1734) of Benjamin Hughes of the parish of Dudley, Worcs., baker and Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Edward Wright of the parish of Tipton alias Tibbington, yeoman; trustees, Jeremiah Wright of the parish of West bramich, Staffs., innholder and William Hughes of the parish of Dudley, tailor; release [lease wanting] of 3 messuages as specified in Queen Street, Dudley, to the use of Benjamin for life, then to Elizabeth for life, thence to their issue, with remainder, in default of issue, to the right heirs of Benjamin; consideration of £100 on the day of the marriage to Benjamin, £50 in money and goods on the birth of the first child, and £50 at the decease of Edward Wright., although no more shall be payable if Elizabeth and the child die within a month; agreement voiding the £50 due on Edward's death unless Benjamin has settled a jointure of £10 a year, including the value of property settled her, on Elizabeth. |

DSCAM/3/230/5: Post-nuptial settlement (27 June 1799) by William Hughes of the parish of Westbromwich, Staffs., gentleman on the Revd William Wood of Dudley, Minister as trustee, of 1 messuage in High Street, Dudley, 2 pieces of land at Watsons Green, parish of Dudley, called Minny Farm and Little Meadow (tenants and abuttals given) and land called the Well Close, at the end of the town of Dudley, to the use of William Hughes for life, then to the use of Ann Hughes (formerly Ann Edwards) for life, thence to their issue as tenants in common, and in default of issue, to such uses as Ann shall appoint, with ultimate remainder to the right heirs of William. |
DSCAM/3/230/6: Copy will (dated 11 Dec. 1804) of William Hughes of West Bromwich, Staffs., gentleman; household effects to wife, Ann Hughes, plus £100; farms and lands (tenants named) in the parish of Rowley Regis, at Eve Hill, parish of Dudley, a moiety of buildings at Wednesbury, 3 pieces of land (Lowes Leasow and Taylors Meadow) in the parishes of Dudley and Sedgley, a messuage, bread shop, bakehouse etc. in Queen Street, Dudley, in trust (along with premises in #5) for the payment of an annuity of £80 to wife for life, falling as an equal burden on his three children; and subject thereto, Rowley Regis and Eve Hill premises in trust to permit son, Benjamin Hughes, to receive the rents for 5 years should he be solvent, and otherwise in trust for testator's wife and thence to Benjamin's children at the age of 21, with remainder to testator's daughters, Ann and Elizabeth as tenants in common, but should Benjamin be solvent after 5 years, in trust for him; other real estate to said daughters as specified; £900 each to daughters; 2 shares in the Dudley New Inn and Market Place to son; 4 shares in Rose Copper Company to son; 3 other such shares and 1 in the Smethwick Brass Works to daughter, Elizabeth; 4 Rose shares and 2 Smethwick shares to daughter, Elizabeth; residue of estate to children equally, except £5 a piece to brother, Edward Hughes, sister, Elizabeth Bolton, brother-in-law, William Faveal, niece, Mary Mills etc.; executors, William Edwards of London, jeweller and Anthony Lane of Wolverhampton, Staffs., gentleman |
DSCAM/3/230/7: Probate (22 July 1829) of the will (dated 18 Sept. 1828) of Ann Hughes of Edgbaston, Warwickshire, widow; trust for sale; executor, Isaac Badger of Dudley, nail ironmonger, to retain the £730 she owes him; balance to her children in equal shares. |

And bonds (30 Jan. 1807) from Thomas Parkin of Dalby Terrace, Islington, Middlesex, merchant, to Benjamin Hughes of Belmont Row and George Thomas King to secure £500 and interest, payable as specified, as additional provision for Parkin's intended wife, Elizabeth Hughes of Belmont Row; and same to same (2 Feb 1807) in £2000 to secure £1000 and interest.
