DSCAM/3/101/2: Probate (2 July 1812) of the will (dated 22 Nov. 1810) of Edward Cox of Sedgley, gentleman; confirms settlements; part of household effects to wife for life, thence to grand-daughter, Jemima Cox, grandson, Joshua Brown and great grandson, Thomas Powell the younger; two copyhold messuages in Sedgley to wife during widowhood and thence to Powell, charged with 30/- p.a. to be expended on bread for the poor of Sedgley as specified; two parcels of copyhold land at Sedgley to Powell; £100 to great grand-daughter, Jemima Brown at the age of 21; recites sale of part of the lands in Sandwell Field comprised within the 1802 settlement, and that he has received the purchase money (£131 5/-) contrary to the settlment; bequeaths a similar sum to the settlement trustees; farm called Browns-wall and all other real estate, tithes, personal estate etc., upon trust for sale; balance of proceeds to be invested to secure the £30 annuity payable to his wife under their settlement, and subject thereto, one third of the income to Jemima Cox for life, thence capital to her children, one third of the income to Joshua Brown, thence capital to his children, final third to be applied for the education and maintenance of Powell and the capital to be transferred to him at the age of 21, with remainder to Jemima and Joshua should Powell die a minor without surviving issue, etc.; Jemima and husband to surrender any interest in the 2 copyhold messuages abovementioned in return for the settlement made on them in this will upon pain of forfeiting it; executors, the Revd John Bradley of Kingswinford, Staffs., William Fellows of Dudley, Worcs., gentleman and Mary Cox (wife). Codicil (26 Aug. 1811) relating to bonds from Cox to Bradley etc. for the benefit of Thomas Powell and Joshua Brown as specified, which are to be deemed satisfied by the bequests to them under the will. |
