DescriptionDSCAM/2/8/83: Demise (6 May 1751) by John Vernon of Abbots Bromley, Staffs., gentleman, to Thomas Foord of the same, cordwainer, of 20sq. yds of land at the back of Foord's house, for a term of 999 years; consideration of 5/-.
DSCAM/2/8/84: Attested copy of the will (dated 19 Oct. 1751) of John Vernon of Abbots Bromley, Staffs., gentleman; funeral arrangements and mourning; all real estate in Kinston and Uttoxeter, Staffs. that were his wife's before marriage, together with his share of the Manor of Uttoxeter, to wife for life; plate and china to wife for life, thence to children, Mary, Rachel and John; real estate at Knowlend, parish of Audley, Staffs., to eldest son; property purchased by him at Abbots Bromley, and land leased from the Earl of Uxbridge there, to Richard Wilkes of Willenhall, Staffs., Doctor of Physic and to Francis Newton of Mobberly and Ralph Vernon of Warmingham Forge, both Cheshire, for a term of 100 years etc., to raise £900 for his younger children, and subject thereto, to his eldest son; Kinston and Uttoxeter property, subject to wife's life interest, to eldest son for life and then to his issue (as provided in father-in-law Malove's settlement); ring, sword etc. to eldest son; spinet to daughter Mary and £100 legacy from her grandmother, with interest at 5% p.a. from 1726; personal estate plus the £900 to children Mary, Manlove, Rachel and John as specified (son Manlove to receive the income from £250, and further contingent provision mentioning his 'unfortunate condition'); executors, brother-in-law Richard Wilkes and testator's wife; trustees and guardians, brothers-in-law Wilkes and Newton, nephew Ralph Vernon.

Codicil (dated 21 Jan. 1754); revokes financial provisions for daughter Mary in view of those made on her marriage to Thomas Hartshorne of Wolverhampton, Clerk, with revision of provisions for Rachel and John. Codicil (13 Mar. 1756) re furniture.

DSCAM/2/8/85: Lease and release (4-5 Nov. 1755) by way of mortgage, by John Vernon of Abbots Bromley, Staffs., gentleman and Ellen his wife and Edward Vernon of Birmingham, Warwickshire, Doctor of Physick (eldest son), to Richard Wilkes of Willenhall, parish of Wolverhampton, Staffs., Doctor of Physick, of the dwelling of John Vernon at Abbots Bromley, 2 other messuages there, and 1a. 1r. of land inclosed from Yarnwick Field (purchased from Edward Wootton), tenants and abuttals given, to secure £445 and interest.
DSCAM/2/8/86: Lease and release (20-21 Apr. 1757) by Richard Wilkes and Edward Vernon, to William Bentley of Coley, parish of Colwich, Staffs., farmer, being a transfer of the mortgage #85; consideration of £420 6/-
DSCAM/2/8/87: Copy of observations made by Mr Johnson on Messrs Vernon's title; post-1764 [c.1797?].
DSCAM/2/8/88: Counterpart agreement (29 Jan. 1775) between Edward Vernon of Westminster, Doctor of Physick and John Chadwick of Ashborn, Derbyshire, apothecary, for the tenancy of a messuage etc. at Abbotts Bromley, from year to year from 25 Mar. 1775, at a rent of £16 16/- p.a.; schedule of fixtures attached.
DSCAM/2/8/89: Agreement (3 Jan. 1777) between James Warner of Uttoxeter, Staffs., agent on behalf of Edward Vernon, and John Chadwick of Bromley, Staffs., apothecary, for the tenancy of Great Yernsiwck, Little Yernswick and Thistley Leys, all in the parish of Abbotts Bromley, from 5 Apr. 1777 from year to year, at a rent of £21 p.a.
DSCAM/2/8/90: Agreement (13 July 1796) between William Warner of Uttoxeter, agent of Ralph Vernon of Sallop, Esq., and Robert Lyons of Abbotts Bromley, Esq., for the sale to Lyons of a messuage in the occupation of John Chadwick, several closes of land, seats in the parish church, and the messuage in the occupation of Thomas Downing, and lands as specified, a total of 16 acres, at Abbotts Bromley, for a consideration of £1617 6s 3d.
DSCAM/2/8/91: Draft release (1796) by Ralph Vernon the elder of Shrewsbury, Salop, Esq., Samuel Vernon of Pickhill, Denbighshire, Esq (his only son) and Ralph Vernon the younger of Brazen Nose College, Oxford, Esq. (eldest son and heir of Samuel) (the devisees under the will of the late Edward Vernon of Abbotts Bromley, bachelor of physic), and by William Maffey of the City of Chester, Esq. and Stephen Luke of the same, gentleman, at the direction of the Vernons, to Benjamin Wilby of Soho Square, Middlesex, gentleman, John Hill of Prees, Salop, Esq., to make Wilby Tenant to the Praecipe for suffering a Recovery in which John Hill shall be Demandant; property in Abbotts Bromley, to the use of such persons as the Vernons shall jointly appoint etc., and otherwise to the use of Vernon the elder for life, then to Samuel for life, thence to Vernon the younger and his heirs; property in Audley and the Manor or Lordship of Shrailey, to the use of the Revd Charles Mytton of Eccleston, Cheshire, Clerk, for a term of 500 years to secure a total of £1450 and interest to Vernon the elder, thence to the Vernons as above; recites previous deeds.


DSCAM/2/8/92: Draft release [lease wanting] (1797) by Robert Lyons and Eleanora Lyons alias Gregory of Abbotts Bromley, to Thomas Dickson of Woodville, co. Leitrim, Ireland, Esq., of the premises at Abbotts Bromley, upon trust [for Eleanora who provided the purchase monies].
DSCAM/2/8/93: Note of rents on Vernon's estate, 1797.
DSCAM/2/8/94-96: Mortgage (4 Feb. 1797) by demise of 1000 years, by Robet Lyons of Abbotts Bromley, Staffs., Esq., to James Richardson of Rocester, Staffs., yeoman, of 2 messuages and lands (Barn Croft, Baxters Meadows, Dunns Intake and Woottons Intake) at Abbotts Bromley, an inclosure of land allotted to Ralph Vernon the elder of Shrewsbury under #100 below, and all pews and sittings in the church at Abbotts Bromley relating to the properties, to secure £600 and interest. And schedule of deeds (from 1716 onwards) deposited with Richardson in connexion with the mortgage.

And surrender of mortgage (15 Sept. 1802) by Richardson, late of Quixhill in the parish of Rocester, now of Marston Park, Derbyshire, yeoman; consideration of £750 13s 6d.
DSCAM/2/8/97: Draft agreement (May 1799) between Eleanora Lyons of Abbots Bromley and Christopher Saunders of -, yeoman, to let a messuage, lands and a dovecote at Abbots Bromley, for 1 year from 25 Mar. last at a rent of £33 p.a.
DSCAM/2/8/98: Draft settlement (Oct. 1814); being a release [lease wanting] by Robert Lyons, formerly of Abbots Bromley, Staffs., now of Dublin, Ireland, Esq. and Eleanora Lyons alias Gregory, now of Dublin, to David Gregory of Bantry, co. Cork, Ireland, Esq., a Major in the Army and Edward Lloyd, Esq., a Captain, Royal Navy, of messuages and lands as specified at Abbots Bromley, to such uses as Eleanora shall appoint, and otherwise in trust to pay the rents to for her for life, thence upon the uses of her will, and in deafult of such appointment, to Eleanora and her heirs; recites conveyance of estate by the Vernon family to Lyons (as trustee for Eleanora) in 1797.
