And bond (14 Sept.) from same to same to perform covenants in the deed.
DSCAM/2/8/56: Lease and release (13-14 Sept. 1726) by Walter Dixon of Bagotts Parke, Staffs., gentleman and Mary his wife and Anne Dixon his daughter, to John Vernon, of the dwellinghouse at Bromley inhabited by Vernon, with a close of land, and the dwellinghouse there of William Faukner; consideration of £360.
DSCAM/2/8/57-58: Lease and release (21-22 May 1728) by Jonathan Wilkinson, late of Abbotts Bromley, Staffs. but now of London, Esq., to Samuel James of Mincing Lane, London, gentleman, of the equity of redemption of a messuage and 2 acres of land (late in Wilkinson's occupation), 3 messuages adjoining it, a messuage (late in the occupation of Joseph Rowell) and 3 acres of land and the Intake (2 acres) in Ernswick Field, a messuage and 2.5 acres of land and the Intake (2 acres) in Ernswick Field (all late William Fradsall's), a messuage late in the occupation of Thomas Hodgson, one (an Inn) with a bowling green and 2 acres of land (all late Nathaniel Clarke's), a messuage in the occupation of John Ford, 6 acres in Ernswick Field and a barn (in the occupation of John Vernon), Miffling Over and Neither Croft with a barn (in the occupation of James Painter), Ashfurlong in the occupation of Isaac Tompson, 2 parcels called Athersalls in the occupation of Francis Dawson, Bucklands Croft (3 acres) in the occupation of Nathaniel Clarke etc. (subject to mortgages of £460 to Sir Walter Bagott and £330 to Humphry Hodgetts); consideration of £300. And attested copy undertaking (dated 22 May 1728) by James concerning sale of premises and application of proceeds; examined, 26 Mar. 1787.
DSCAM/2/8/59: Attested copy of the will (dated 21 Sept. 1728) of Samuel James; Abbotts Bromley property and third share in 5 leasehold messuages in Rosemary Lane, Middlesex, to wife Mary and daughter Mary, equally, with arrangements to cover daughter's minority; household effects to wife; monies and book debts to be divided between wife and daughter in proportion 2:1; executrix is wife (or daughter if wife has died). Note of probate, 1 Apr. 1729. Examined, 2 Apr. 1737.
DSCAM/2/8/60-62: Lease and release (22-23 June 1730) by Sir Walter Wagstaffe Bagot of Blythfield, Staffs., Bart, to John Vernon, of land at Abbotts Bromley, called Yearnswick alias the Barne Close (2.75 acres), adjoining Radmore Lane, and a little Intacke (quarter of an acre) adjoining Yearnswick, and the close called Thistley Leasowe (1.75 acres) and a lille Pingle or Intack adjoining it (quarter of an acre), and Duns Intack (1a. 3r.), all recently purchased from Wilkinson (their descent to Wilkinson given) and all abuttals given; consideration of £197 10/-. And bond (23 June) from same to same to perform covenants in the deed. And memorandum by Bagot agreeing to sell the land at 25 years' purchase = 27/- per acre; 6 Jan. 1729/30.

DSCAM/2/8/69-73: Lease and release (23-24 Mar. 1736/7) by Mary James of the parish of St Pancross, Middlesex, widow (of Samuel James of Mincing Lane, parish of St Dunstans in the East, City of London, gentleman, deceased), Jonathan Wilkinson, late of Abbotts Bromley, now of the parish of St James, Middlesex, brewer and Anne Hall, late widow and relict of Jonathan Wilkinson of Abbotts Bromley, Clerk, deceased and now widow of James Hall of Fradsall, Staffs., yeoman, deceased (mother of Jonathan Wilkinson, brewer), to John Vernon, of the messuage at Bromley late in the occupation of Joseph Rowell on the north side of the High Street, and 3 closes of land belonging to it (3a.; 2a. inclosed from Earnswick Field; 1a. inclosed from Ashfurlong), Townsend House in the same High Street, and 2 closes belonging to it (Mifflins Overcroft - 1.5a.; and Mifflins Nether Peice, inclosed from Ashfurlong - 2a.), 2 closes called Athersalls or the Cowpastures (6 acres), the Barn Close (4 acres) inclosed from Earnswick Field, 2 closes called the Thistley Leys and the Pingle (2 acres) (all abuttals given); consideration of £460 retained by Vernon to discharge Bagot's mortgage and £40 paid to Mary James; endorsed memorandum of the conveyance #80 below.

And lease and release (23-24 Mar.) by John Hodgetts of Shuttend, Staffs., Esq. (devisee and resdiuary legatee of Humphry Hodgetts), and Mary James, Jonathan Wilkinson and Anne Hall, to John Vernon, of a messuage on the north side of the High Street, Abbotts Bromley, an adjacent croft, a croft called the Intack and another called Ash Furlong (all abuttals given); consideration of £154 17s 6d to Hodgetts (towards the repayment of Hodgetts' mortgage) and £16 12s 6d to Mrs James; recites mortgages #48, 51 and 53, and conveyance #57 above.

Also bonds (24 Mar.) of Mrs James to Vernon in £80 to preform covenants in the deed #69, and in £343 to perform those in the deed #70. And agreement between Mrs James and Vernon for the sale for £671 10/-; 30 Dec. 1736.
DSCAM/2/8/74-76: Letters from William Rawlins, London to Theophilus Levett, Lichfield, attorney re Mrs James, her relations with Wilkinson, difficulty in getting money from her, title to the property and reversionary interests; 22 Feb. 1736/7-26 Mar. 1737.
DSCAM/2/8/77-78: Assignment (31 Mar. 1737) by Mary James, at the request of John Vernon of Abbotts Bromley, Staffs., gentleman, John Tompson of the same, timber merchant, Thomas Emery of the same, gardener and John Lees of the same, wheelwright, to Theopilus Levett of the City and County of Lichfield, gentleman, in trust to attend the freeholds of the various purchasers.; recites judgment and conveyance #69 etc. above. Enclosing copy of the judgment dated 28 Nov 1727 of Samuel James against Jonathan Wilkinson.
DSCAM/2/8/79: Quit claim (6 May 1737) by William Rawlins of the parish of St Martin Ludgate, City of London, woollen draper, with the approval of Mary James and Jonathan Wilkinson, to John Vernon, John Tompson, Thomas Emery and John Lees, of all his interest in the properties formerly belonging to Wilkinson, at Abbotts Bromley; consideration of £10 by Vernon et al.
DSCAM/2/8/80: Attested copy of release [lease wanting] (dated 6 Dec. 1737) by John Vernon to Sir Walter Wagstaffe Bagot of Blithfield, Staffs., Bart, of a messuage in High Street, Abbotts Bromley, late in the occupation of Joseph Rowell, and 3 acres of land, a messuage (Townsend House) in the same street late in the possession of John Ford,and Mifflins Over Croft and Mifflins Nether Croft (1.5 and 2 acres; abuttals given), and 6 acres of land called the Athersall sor Cowpastures, etc.; consideration of £40.
DSCAM/2/8/81: Bargain and sale and enfeoffment (10 Apr. 1738) by Edward Wootton of Abbotts Bromley, Staffs., yeoman, William Wootton of the same, yeoman (his only son and heir) and Jane Wootton of the same, spinster (only daughter of Edward), to John Vernon, of 1a. 1r. of land inclosed from the common field at Abbotts Bromley called Yarnswick ; consideration of £52 10/-; livery of seisin endorsed.
DSCAM/2/8/82: Deed of exchange (18 Apr. 1738) between Philip Henry Warburton of Hefferson Grange, Cheshire, Esq. and John Vernon of Abbots Bromly, Staffs., gentleman; bargain and sale and enfeoffment by Vernon to Warburton of 3a. 3r. of land at Bromley called Ashfurlong (abuttals given), and by Warburton to Vernon of2a. 1r. of land called Yernswick or Little Yernswick; consideration of £20 to Vernon to equalise the exchange.
