DSCAM/2/8/37: Draft assignment of mortgages (2 Oct. 1721), by Mary Manlove of Leeshill, Staffs., widow (and executrix of Rowland Marlove of the same, gentleman, deceased), at the direction of Jonathan Wilkinson (son and heir of Jonathan Wilkinson late of Abbotts Bromley, Staffs., Clerk, deceased), to John Berwick of Admaston, Staffs., yeoman, in trust for Charles Bagott the elder of Blythfield, Staffs., Esq., of Townsend House etc. at Bromley, and other messuages in the High Street there (as specified; abuttals given), and 2 days work in Earswick field etc., for the residue of several terms of 500 years etc.; consideration of £290 11/-; recites mortgage by demise dated 5 Mar. 1712/3 to Rowland Marlove, and subsequent further mortgages. |
DSCAM/2/8/38: Attested copy settlement of property at Bromley (dated 26-27 Apr. 1722); lease and release by Thomas Holmes of Abbot's Bromley, Staffs., gentleman and Jane his wife, and John Wilkinson of Abbot's Bromley, gentleman (grandson and heir of Thomas Holmes) and Elizabeth his wife, to Samuel Bromfeild, citizen and hosier of London and Brandon Hatch, citizen and leather setter of London (trustees), of 4 messuages on the north side of High Street, Bromley, another messuage on the north side of High Street (in the occupation of William Fradzall) and a further messuage on the south side of High Street (in he occupation of Thomas Hodgson), and lands called Holmes's Croft, Fradzall's Croft, Hodgson's Croft, Buckland's Croft, The Element Croft, Fradzall's Intack, The Ash-Furlong alias Brandrick's Field, The Cow-Pasture, the Barn-Close (and barn), Buckland's Pingle and the Thistley Leys; Holmes to receive the rents of the Ash-Furlong; Holmes and wife to receive an annuity of £11 charged on all the premises if they do not live with Wilkinson; then the survivor to take the rents of Ash-Furlong, plus an annuity of £3 if not living with Wilkinson; and subject to the foregoing, to the use of Wilkinson for life, then to Elizabeth Wilkinson for life as a jointure, thence to their issue, with remaindr to the heirs of the body of Wilkinson and ultimate remainder to his right heirs; covenants by Wilkinson for lodging, feeding, washing for Holmes and wife etc.. DSCAM/2/8/40-41: Copy release [lease wanting] (6 June 1723) by Thomas Holmes of Abbots alias Pagets Bromley, Staffs., scrivener (in whom the freehold is vested) and Jane his wife, to Jonathan Wilkinson of the same, gentleman, to lead the uses of a Fine to Charles Bagot the elder of Blithfield, Staffs., Esq. (who has discharged Manlove's mortgage by #37 above) of premises as in #33 above (Rowell's house, a croft adjoining it of 3 acres, a part of Yernswickfield of 2 acres and called Duns Intack, and an inclosure from Ashfurlong, plus Whilton's messuage and a bowling green). And Final Concord (Trinity Term 9 George I = 1723) between Charles Bagott, Esq. (Plaintiff) and Jane Holmes and Jonathan Wilkinson (Deforciants). |
DSCAM/2/8/42-43: Lease and release by way of mortgage (27-28 June 1723), by Jonathan Wilkinson of Abbots Bromley, Staffs., gentleman, to Charles Bagot the elder of Blythfeild, Staffs., Esq., of a messuage in High Street, Bromley occupied by Joseph Rowell, and lands called the Croft and Duns Intack (the former near the house and the latter inclosed from Earnswick Field), and land inclosed from Ashefurlong, the messuages in the same street of Samuel Whilton, with a bowling green, of John Ford (called Townsend House), with 2 closes of Miflins Crofts (Overcroft and Nethercroft), and 2 closes called Barneclose and Thistley Leys, to secure £400 and interest.
Also an attested copy of 23 June 1730 wherein deeds are dated 7-8 June 1723 and the sum of money secured is £460, but premises are the same. |
DSCAM/2/8/44: Defeazance (10 July 1723) by Bagot to Wilkinson in respect of the mortgage (again dated 7-8 June 1723), that the sum to be repaid is £460 and due in June 1728. |
DSCAM/2/8/45: Deed to declare the uses of a Fine [#41] (21 Nov. 1723) by Charles Bagot the elder of Blythfeild, Staffs., Esq. to Jane Holmes of Bromley Pagets alias Abbots Bromley, Staffs., widow (of Thomas Holmes) and Jonathan Wilkinson of the same, gentleman; property in Rowell's occupancy and Ford's, and 2 inclosures called Thistley Leys and the Barneclose (in the possession of John Vernon), and 3 inclosures called the Ashersalls or the Cowpasture and the Pingle (in the possession of Wilkinson), and Miflins Nether Croft, Miflins Overcroft and Ashfurlong (all lately conveyed to Bagot), to the use of Bagot; and all other premises mentioned, to the use of Wilkinson (viz a messuage and croft in the occupation of Wilkinson, Bucklands Croft and Hodgsons Croft, the messuage and bowling green in the possession of Samuel Whilton, 6 other dwellinghouses specified in the occupation of William Batkin and others, a close called Ashfurlong in the possession of Isaac Tompson). |
DSCAM/2/8/46-47: Lease and release (26-27 Nov. 1723) by Jane Holmes of Abbotts alias Pagetts Bromley, Staffs., widow (of Thomas Holmes) and Jonathan Wilkinson of the same, gentleman, to Michael Robinson of the Oldwood, parish of Colton, Staffs., gentleman and Thomas Furnivall of the same, gentleman, of the messuage in Bromley occupied by Holmes and Wilkinson, with appurtenances, and those messuages or cottages now or late in the occupations of William Batkin, Jane Cheatham, Thomas Hodgson, and Charles Pyatt, and Element Croft in the possession of John Ford; upon trust to permit Jane to take the rents of property occupied by Hodgson, and of all the other premises should she decide not to live with Wilkinson, for life, and subject to such life interests, to the use of Wilkinson and his heirs; Wilkinson covenants to provide her with lodging, washing, clothing, food and drink suited to 'her age and degree'; covenant that Wilkinson will make up any deficiency in the rental income to be received by Jane to £8 p.a.; recites the levying of a Fine to cancel an annuity of £8 enjoyed by Jane. And bond (27 Nov.) from Wilkinson to Robinson in £200 to perform covenants in the deed. |
DSCAM/2/8/48-50: Mortgage by demise of 1000 years (4 Dec. 1723), by Jonathan Wilkinson of Abbotts alias Paggetts Bromley, Staffs., gentleman, to Humphry Hodgetts of the Borough of Stafford, Staffs., Esq., of the house in the possession of William Fradzall [mentioned in #45], an acre of land called the Intake, the house and an acre and a half of land in the possession of Samuel Whilton, lands called Ashfurlong (in the posession of Isaac Tompson) and Bucklands Croft (in the possession of Jonathan Wilkinson), to secure £200 and interest; endorsed memorandum of #15. And counterpart. Also bond (same date) from same to same as further security for the £200. |
DSCAM/2/8/51-52: Memorandum of further charge (4 Aug. 1724) by Jonathan Wilkinson; charging mortgage premises with an extra £80, representing interest on the mortgage #48 and additional borrowing of £73 6s 8d, and secured by a bond of even date. And bond (same date) from same to same as security for the £82 [sic.]. |
DSCAM/2/8/53: Lease and release (8-9 July 1726) by Jonathan Wilkinson of Abbots alias Pagetts Bromley, Staffs., gentleman, to Humphry Hodgetts of the Borough of Stafford, Staffs., Esq., of the messuage occupied by Jane Holmes (grandmother of Wilkinson), and in which Wilkinson lately dwelt, the cottage late in the possession of William Batkin, the cottage in the possession of Jane Chetham, all together in the High Street at Bromley, the house in the occupation of Thomas Hodgson and that of Charles Pyott, and Element Croft in the possession of John Ford, all at Bromley, and any other estates of Wilkinson there, being a mortgage in fee to secure £50 and interest. |
