DescriptionDSCAM/2/7/5/1: Bargain and sale and enfeoffment (15 Oct. 1801) by John Jackson of Shareshill, Staffs., farmer (eldest son and heir of George Jackson, farmer, who was eldest son and heir of Mary Lewis of Shareshill and Great Wyrley, Staffs., widow, by her first husband, Thomas Jackson), Margaret Lewis of Shareshill, spinster (executrix of Mary Lewis her mother), and Edward Sayer of Great Wyrley, yeoman (eldest son and heir and devisee in fee of Edward Sayer), to John Smith of Norton Canes [Caines] alias Norton under Cannock, Staffs., farmer (son-in-law of Edward Sayer the son), of their various interests and rights of redemption in a newly erected messuage and various parcels of land (specified) called the Hawthorns and in Broad Meadow etc., all Great Wyrley; consideration of £67 2/- by Smith to Lewis to repay the within recited mortgage; appointment of John Hatton of Great Wyrley, weaver and John Greensill of the same, wheelwright as attornery to deliver seisin; livery of seisin endorsed, 26 Oct. 1801. Endorsed memorandum of sale of the Hawthorns by William Smith of Great Wyrley, farmer, to Thomas Hatton of the same, gentleman, 26 Mar. 1877.
DSCAM/2/7/5/2: Lease and release (24-25 Mar. 1802) by Joseph Stubbs of Birmingham, Warwickshire, gentleman and John Stubbs of Walsall, Staffs., banker (eldest son and heir at law of John Stubbs of the same, ironmonger), to John Smith, of parcels of land as specified in Broad Meadow/Great Broad Meadow and at Black Flatts, Great Wyrley; consideration of £389 0s 6d; covenant by Edward Sayer for the production of title deeds from 1663 to 1786. Endorsed note on release of conveyance by John Smith's executors to Thomas Hatton, of Black Flats (4a. 1r. 21p.), 29 Sept. 1876.
DSCAM/2/7/5/3-4: Probate (24 Jan. 1817) of the will (dated 10 July 1816) of John Smith of Great Wyrley, farmer; £100 each to sons, William, John, Edward and Richard, at the age of 21; all other estate to wife, Dorothy Smith, during widowhood, and a £60 annuity in lieu should she remarry; thence messuage and lands at Great Wyrley as specified, to son William, charged with £250 to testator's daughter Elizabeth payable at the age of 23, with interest on it for the support of daughter as specified; other property at Great Wyrley (as specified), to son John, charged with £250 to daughter Elizabeth and same terms as preceding; lands specified in the parish of Cannock, to son Edward, charged with £250 to daughter Mary on the usual terms; and other lands in that parish (specified), to son Richard, charged with £250 for Mary; after death of wife, personal estate to sons equally; executors, Robert Hanbury of Norton and wife. Codicil (16 July 1816); legacies to daughters to pass to their children, and for want of isse to be divided between his surviving children. And Legacy Receipt for Elizabeth Greensill under the will, 23 Nov. 1848.
DSCAM/2/7/5/5: Copy agreement (dated 20 June 1836) for a lease by John Hatton of Ladywood, Great Wyrley, parish of Cannock, Staffs., farmer, to William Smith of Great Wyrley, farmer, of the use of pits and shafts in Broad Meadow and Little Leasow to enable him to work adjoining coals under lands of Hatton occupied by Dororthy Smith (New Piece, Broad Meadow Field) at Great Wyrley etc., for a term of 8 years, and a consideration of £30 and £10 in coals, payable as specified.
DSCAM/2/7/5/6: Copy of the will (dated 29 Sept. 1829) of Richard Smith of the liberty of Wednesfield, parish of Wolverhampton, Staffs., miller; 3 closes of land and barn in the parish of Cannock and the occupancy of Dorothy Smith, and all other estate passing under to him under will #3, to wife, Mary Smith, for life, charged with £100 when their infant son reaches the age of 21, thence to that son, in remainder to all the testator's brothers and sisters and their heirs, equally as tenants in common (remoter issue taking per stirpes); all charged with £200 to testator's sister, Mary Smith, under #3; all personal estate to wife; executors, Mark Devy of Wednesfield, gentleman and Edward Smith of Great Wyrley, machine maker (brother).
DSCAM/2/7/5/7: Probate (16 July 1834) of the will (dated 24 Dec. 1833) of Benjamin Highfield of Chapel Ash, township of Wolverhampton, Staffs., yeoman; copyhold messuage at corner of St John's Street, facing High Street, Wolverhampton, to wife, Charlotte, for life, then to niece, Charlotte Hill, wife of James Hill of Wolverhampton, keysmith for life, thence to her issue as tenants in common, with remainder to William Smith, John Smith, Edward Smith, Elizabeth Greensill, Mary Smith, William Harvey, Elizabeth Smith, Ann Harvey and John Smith Harvey (the children of brothers-in-law, John Smith and John Harvey) and Mary Homes (niece; daughter of wife's sister), as tenants in common; charged with £50 each to sisters, Ann Leese, Lidia Barnet and Maria Barnet, after death of wife; £20 to Elizabeth Harvey (wife's sister) after wife's death; personal estate and household effects to Charlotte Hill (inc. 10 shares in Wolverhampton Union Bread and Flour Company); executors, Wiliam Smith of Great Wyrley, parish of Cannock, farmer, William Harvey of the same, cordwainer, and wife.
DSCAM/2/7/5/8-10: Will (7 Dec. 1838) of Dorothy Smith of Great Wyrley, widow; Brown's Meadow at Great Wyrley and all other estate to children (William Smith, John Smith, Edward Smith, Elizabeth Greensill and Mary Smith) as tenants in common; sons are executors. Account of personal estate, with note that she died on 4 Oct. 1842. Agreement (1 Apr. 1843) between her 5 children that the sale proceeds of Brown's Meadow (£400) and £133 6s 8d from the proceeds of the sale of Rush Croft, the Field Piece and the Egg Mores (devised by their grandfather, Edward Sayer) be deposited in the Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Bank, to pay the interest due on a £400 bond to Mrs Sayer for life (as detailed), and then £100 be paid to Charles Quinton of Poolhayes, £100 to Edward Sayer of Great Wyrley, £100 to the representatives of the late Elizabeth Asbury of Edgehill, and the balance divided between the parties (who are immediately dividing the rest of the Rush Croft etc. proceeds, viz. £466 13s 4d.
DSCAM/2/7/5/11: Probate (6 Feb. 1852) of the will (dated 16 Apr. 1851) of John Smith of Norton Cains, Staffs., farmer; trust for sale, income to wife, Mary Elizabeth, during widowhood, then in trust for maintenance of children, with capital divided between them at the age of 21; executors and guardians, William Smith and Edward Smith (brothers).
DSCAM/2/7/5/12: Copy will (dated 1 May 1872) of Mary Bamford of Great Wyrley, Staffs., wife of John Bamford of Shiffnal, Salop, farmer [formerly Mary Smith]; made pursuant to marriage settlement; estate of £260 arising chiefly from share in sale proceeds of house in Wolverhampton, plus moiety of £400 under settlement; appoints the sum equally per capita to such of Marian Smith and Hannah Smith (the children of her late brother, John Smith), and Richard Greensill, George Greensill, Mary Poynor, Elizabeth Cooper, Ann Greensill and Emma Greensill (the children of her late sister, Elizabeth Greensill) as survive her; executors, William Smith and Edward Smith, both of Great Wyrley (her brothers) and Thomas Deakin Greensill of Wolverhampton.
DSCAM/2/7/5/13: Copy of the will (dated 17 July 1878) of William Smith of Great Wyrley, Staffs., farmer; £10 for mourning to nieces Mary, wife of Edward Poyner, Elizabeth, widow of Joseph Cooper, Ann, wife of George Allen and Emma Greensill, and to Edward Poyner, son of Mary; £100 each to nieces Mary Ann Smith and Hannah Smith (daughters of late brother John); trust for sale, with procceds divided between nephew, George Greensill, nieces, Mary Poyner, Ann Allen and Emma Greensill, and final share in trust for Elizabeth Cooper for life, thence to be divided between the other 4; executors, George Allen of Yew Tree Farm near Penkridge and George Greensill of Great Wyrley, commercial agent.
