Description | Correspondence from Cannon Iron Foundries Ltd. to W.P. Thompson & Co., Liverpool, asking about the integrity of a circular letter, sent to Mr Clayton of Cannon by 'E. Boettcher, President of the Parisian Inventors' Academy'. The circular letter states that 'after the Patenting of your invention our Institution has conferred upon you the title of Member of the Academy with award of the first class diploma and the great gold medal'. It also asks for the sum of £2 to cover admission taxes, freight, etc. W.P. Thompson & Co. reply that this is 'a very old dodge of Boettcher's' to extract money from unwitting manufacturers but that it 'appears not to be a criminal offence in France'. |
