AdminHistoryWolverhampton's first power station, off Commercial Road, was opened on 5th January, 1895. It had its own basin (Anglesey Basin) on the Birmingham Canal which was used to unload coal from the canal barges, and to load ash. The station was extended towards the canal in 1936, and new mechanical coal unloading equipment was installed. This system of using the canals for the transportation of raw materials carried on until the 1950s when the power station closed in 1955. The iron frame has now been demolished.
