AdminHistoryAn exact date of construction cannot be given for the Church of St. Thomas.
The earliest known mention of St Thomas is in a Papal Bull of 1182, issued by Pope Lucius III confirming the property and privileges to the monks of the Priory of St. James. This included the churches and chapels of St. Edmund and St. Thomas
Along with the destruction of Dudley Castle, the Church of St. Edmund was demolished by Colonel Leveson in 1646 and its registers, dating back to 1540, were transferred to St. Thomas's. In 1815, the church of St. Thomas was demolished. The new church of St. Thomas was opened in 1818.
