Notes: The fountain was a gift from the Earl of Dudley to the Town and Borough of Dudley and had been displayed at the Paris Exhibition in 1867. An address thanking him for the gift, presented on the opening of the fountain on 17th October 1867, describes the fountain as 'rich in its usefulness, chaste in its design, and full of artistic and architectural beauty in its execution' [DE/13/12]. James Forsyth was sculptor of the Perseus Fountain at the Earl's Witley Court and a very similar version of the Dudley Market Place fountain can also be found in Mumbai.
