Title | BUSINESS RECORDS: MINING AND MINERAL RESOURCES OF LORD DUDLEY'S SETTLED ESTATES (MINES DEPARTMENT) |
Description | The Mines Department was run as a separate entity from the main estate administration from around 1804 (possibly as early as the 1780s, though it was probably introduced in 1797 by Charles Beaumont). Before the 1830s, the mineral affairs were administered from the Level Store Yard. In 1826 the mineral estate agent's house and offices were erected at The Priory in Dudley and it was from here that the department operated from the 1830s onwards.
